Girls Varsity Track · Girls Track Finishes 5th, Mwenifumbo Named Marion Relays MVP

The sun came out to shine on the Eagles as they competed at the 68th Marion Relays in Marion, Indiana. The girls finished in 5th place.

The team was also able to leave the meet with the meet MVP in Senior Joselyn Mwenifumbo. Mwenifumbo was the champion in the High Jump (5’2”), the Long Jump (17’3”), and the 100 Hurdles (15.3) and was a member of the second place 4×400 Relay (4:14).


Freshman Alecia Parker was also the champion of the shot put as well. Parker won with a toss of 35’11.5″.

In the individual track events, Freshman Ivie Skube finished in the 3200 with a time of 13:11. Joining her was Freshman Maggie Coman who ran in 14:09. In the 1600 Coman ran 6:30 just behind Senior Niki Hakimzadeh who ran 6:07.

Hakimzadeh was also a member of two of the distance relays, the 4×800 and the Distance Medley Relay. Running in the cold ran, the Distance Medley Relay (1200-400-800-1600), Hakimzadeh, Sophomore Maddie Mischak, and Juniors Kierra Watford and Hannah Mihut finished in 14:49.

The sprint relays had mixed success with the young team. The Sprint Medley Relay (100-100-200-400) was led off by Freshman Jordan Mihut. She was joined by Watford who passed it off to Sophomore Devyn Moore and then anchored by Freshman Armani Stroud.

The 4×100 Freshman Ashlyn Wiggins, Watford, Junior Ali Mihut and Moore ran in 54.5.

Also in the field Junior Claire Butler finished 4th in Pole Vault with a leap of 7’0”. In the discus Sanela Begic finished in 8th with a toss of 87’1.5”. She was joined by Junior Heather Bowling who threw 81’8”.

The Eagles will compete again on Tuesday evening, traveling down toe John Glenn High School for an NIC matchup with Glenn and SB St Joseph.
