Senior Joselyn Mwenifumbo was honored Monday evening as the 2017 Northern Indiana Conference Girls Track & Field Most Valuable Athlete. The honor was recognized at the annual recognition dinner for all Northern Indiana Conference sports. She was the only student athlete from John Adams to receive such an honor last year.
Mwenifumbo won the award as a junior at the NIC Championship Meet on May 9, 2017. Mwenifumbo was the champion in the 100 Hurdles (15.66) and the Long Jump (16’10”), finished 3rd in the 300 Hurdles (48.94) and ran the final leg in the 4×100 Relay that finished in 2nd place (51.28)
Mwenifumbo’s other achievements from her junior year include being a qualifier in the 60 Hurdles and 4×400 Relay at the Hoosier State Relays finals, 100 Hurdles Champion at the Marion Relays, a memebr of the winning 4×100, 4×200, Long Jump, and High Jump Relays at the Goshen Relays, IHSAA Sectional Champion in the 100 Hurdles, and a IHSAA State Meet Qualifier in the 100 Hurdles as well.
In her senior year Mwenifumbo has placed 5th in the 60 Hurdles at the Hoosier State Relays, been named the 2018 Marion Relays MVP, and is undefeated this year in the 100 Hurdles, 300 Hurdles, and Long Jump outdoors.
