Girls Varsity Track · Girls Track and Field Finishes 3rd at IHSAA Sectional

The IHSAA Girls Track & Field Tournament began on Tuesday evening at Penn High School with the Sectional Meet. The team finished with 74 points in 3rd place.

The top three finishers in all events qualify for the IHSAA Regional Meet at Kokomo High School next Tuesday. There are also the possibility of call backs to complete the field as well.

Senior Joselyn Mwenifumbo finished as the Sectional Champion in both the 100 Hurdles and the 300 Hurdles. In the 100 Hurdles Mwenifumbo won with a 14.6. She ran away with the 300 Hurdles running in 46.1.

Mwenifumbo also finished as the runner up in the Long Jump with a leap of 17’6.75”

Mwenifumbo was also the anchor leg of the 2nd place finishing 4×400 Relay. She was joined by Ali Mihut, Brianna Woods, and Devyn Moore. The 4×400 improved their season best time running 4:07.

The 4×800 Relay also improved their time this season, taking 20 seconds off their previous best time, running 10:17. The relay was made up of Hannah Mihut, Ivie Skube, Maddie Mischak and Brianna Woods, with the first three all setting a personal best in the event.

In the Shot Put, Freshman Alecia Parker threw 35’11” which was good for 2nd place in the event.

Janiya Coleman finished in 3rd place in the 100 Dash and qualifies for the regional meet.

The final regional qualifier will be Niki Hakimzadeh in the 1600. Due to scratches after the meet Hakimzadeh will be the next athlete in.

Those girls that qualify for the meet will travel to Kokomo High School for the Regional Meet beginning at 6:00 PM on May 22.

Also placing for the Eagles this evening include Ashlyn Wiggins in the 200 (6th), Jordan Mihut in the 400 (8th), Hannah Mihut in the 800 (7th), Niki Hakimzadeh in the 1600 (6th) Maddie Mischak in the 1600 (8th), Ivie Skube in the 3200 (6th), Ali Mihut in the 300 Hurdles (8th), and the 4×100 (5th)
