The Girls Swimming and Diving teams had an impressive night on Thursday when they traveled to take on the New Prairie Cougars. Many of the individuals and relays set season and personal best times as they have continued to improve in their win over New Prairie 95- 91. The win and improved times come at the perfect time for the season as the team prepares for the South Bend City Meet on Saturday, taking the momentum into the weekend.
Adams was impressive in the win, taking first place in eight of the 12 events, including two of the three relays.
The 200 Medley Relay started things off in the right direction for the Eagles. The relay made up of Eamin Lynch, Ivie Skube, Melany Morales Garibay, and Cate Garber swam 2:11.26. The last relay of the night, the 400 Freestyle Relay also was victorious. Team members Morales Garibay, Lynch, Tania Gonzalez, and Lindsay Collins won in 4:16.57.
In the individual events, Morales Garibay was the winner in the 200 Freestyle (2:18.98) and the 100 Butterfly (1:12.67). In both of those events that she won an Adams teammate finished right behind in second place. In the 200 Free, Tania Gonzalez finished second in 2:24.59 and in the 100 Butterfly Olivia Tompson’s 1:26.40 was good for second.
Lindsay Collins was the winner of both the 50 Freestyle (28.02) and the 100 Freestyle (1:03.47). Eamin Lynch was the individual winner in the 200 Individual Medley (2:36.45) and the 100 Backstroke (1:08.94).
Finally in Diving, the Eagles finished 1-2. Lindsay Gizzi finished first with 272.50 points and Kate Hensewell finished second with 247.90.
The Lady Eagles improve their season record to 5-3 overall and 4 – in the NIC.
Adams will compete this Saturday in the South Bend City Meet at Riley HS. Competition begins at 9:00 AM.
