The girls basketball secured their first Northern Indiana Conference game win of the year on Friday night, defeating the Jimtown Jimmies with a score of 50 – 40. The Eagles took the lead from the get go and never looked back on the Jimmies, being in command of the game, even when Jimtown tried to make a comeback after the half. The Eagles remained calm and composed, building the lead back up, securing the win.
Loryn Higginbotham had a big night for the Eagles, scoring 16 points, the leading scorer for Adams and ball game. Higginbotham was 6 for 16 from the free throw line as well. Laila Williams had an impressive night as well, scoring 12 points and going 2 for 2 from the line as well. Maria Besario scored 3 three pointers, finishing the game with 11 points.
McKenna Leichty scored 4 points, Makiah McCain had 3 points, and Whitney Marshall and Marissa Shelton both added 2 points each.
The team was able to step up when needed at key times throughout the game, especially throughout the third quarter. The Jimmies came out of the locker room determined to cut the lead, and almost tied up the game, but Adams would not let Jimtown back into the game. Working together, moving the ball around, all helped Adams get the first win in the conference this season.
The Adams record is now 2-9 overall and 1-8 in the NIC. Adams will play again tomorrow on the road at Michigan City Marquette Catholic High School.
In the Junior Varsity game the Eagles were also victorious, defeating Jimtown 45 – 15. The leading scorer for Adams were Mayah Allen with 13 points and Marissa Shelton with 12 points.
