Girls Varsity Basketball · Girls Basketball Begins Day 1 of Marian Tournament


It is holiday basketball tournament time and the girls basketball team competed this year in the Mishawaka Marian Holiday Tournament. The tournament, featuring 8 teams and 12 games is played over 2 days.

Adams opened up play on Friday in the first round against the LaPorte Slicers. The Eagles were competitive against the Slicers, having a one point lead after the first quarter. In the second the Eagles fell behind, outscored by LaPorte 8-18. Throughout the rest of the game, Adams and LaPorte were just about even, but Adams eventually fell with a score of 50 – 59.

The leading scorer for Adams in the first game was Loryn Higginbotham who had 20 points. Makiah McCain who was 4 for 4 from the free throw line scored 11 points as well. Maria Besario scored 8 points, Marissa Shelton scored 7 points, and Whitney Marshall finished with 4 points.

With the loss the Eagles moved to the consolation rounds and played Munster High School in the evening. The Eagles had the lead throughout the first half, leading by 3 at the half, but the Mustang offense was too much for the Eagles in the second half. Adams lost with a final score of 39-48.

Loryn Higginbotham was once again the leading scorer for Adams with 15 points in the game.  Maria Besario was 2 for 2 from the free throw line and ended the night with 7 points. Laila Williams and Whitney Marshall both had 6 points, and Marissa Shelton had 5 points.

The Lady Eagle continue action in the tournament tomorrow and take on Winamac at 11:00 AM.
