Jonathan Thomas advanced to the final day of the Al Smith Invitational over the weekend.
Wrestling at the 220 pound weight class, Thomas finished the weekend 5-2, ending up in 4th place.
On the first day of the tournament, Thomas went 3-1. In the first round Thomas won by major decision 15-3. In Round 2 Thomas won by Fall at 1:05. Unfortunately Thomas lost in the quarterfinals by decision 4-3, his first loss of the year. In the consolation round he won by decision 6-3.
Thomas started out well on the second day, winning by fall in his fist match and then by decision 13-7 in the consolation semi finals, putting him in the third place match. Thomas took on Drew Bailey of Merrillville High School who on the year was 19-1. The two had to take the match to sudden victory where Thomas was defeated 8-6.
Thomas has a record now of 22-2 for the season at 220 pounds.
As a team the Eagles finished in 31st place with 26 points.
