The girls basketball team faced off against SB Washington on Friday night at Washington High School. The rivalry between the South Bend schools made sure that they game would be a good one, and it proved to be so. Adams took the lead early in the game, outscoring the Lady Panthers 12-6 in the first quarter. Unfortunately for Adams, the team only scored 1 point in the second quarter and was trailing by 2 at the half. Going back and forth throughout the half, the Eagles never gave up and kept the game close but eventually lost to Washington with a score of 40 – 43.
Loryn Higginbotham was the leading scorer for Adams, finishing the night with 18 points. Higgibotham made one 3 point shot and was 3 for 5 from the free throw line. Laila Williams added another 11 points for the Eagles and she was also 3 for 4 shooting free throws.
Maria Besario scored another 7 points for Adams, Marissa Shelton scored 2 points, and Whitney Marshall and Makiah McCain each scored 1 point.
In the Junior Varsity game Adams defeated SB Washington 41 – 25. Kyah Walker was the leading scorer for the team in the game, ending the evening with 13 points.
Adams will compete again next week at home on Wednesday, hosting Elkhart Memorial High School.
