The IHSAA Wrestling Tournament began on Saturday at Mishawaka High School with the Eagles competing in Sectionals. As a team, the Eagles finished in 5th place with 97 points. Four individuals will also advance to next week’s Regional at Penn High School. The top four wrestlers in each weight class advance to the next round.
Jonathan Thomas finished as the Sectional Champion wrestling in the 220 pound weight class. Thomas had a bye during the quarterfinals due to a forfeit and easily won during the semifinals and championship matches, pinning his opponent in each within the first period. Thomas’ record improves to 29-2 for the season.
Also qualifying for the Regional will be Dominique Clark wrestling at 152 pounds. Clark finished 2-2 for the day, ending up in 4th place. Camden Hanks will advance at 170 pounds after finishing 4th as well and 2-2 during the day. The final wrestler to advance will be Joe Phillips at 285 pounds. Phillips finished 3rd and advances after finishing 3-1.
Other wrestlers for the Eagles included John Burford at 132 pounds (5th), Jacob Harsh at 138 pounds, Ian Donihue at 160 Pounds (6th), Chykeem Crawford at 182 pounds (6th), and Horace Hill at 195 pounds (5th).
The IHSAA Regional is scheduled for next Saturday February 2 at Penn High School.
