Girls Varsity Basketball · Girls Basketball Ends Regular Season with Loss

The regular season came to an end on Saturday night for the girls basketball team as they hosted the LaPorte Slicers in non conference play. Saturday’s game was the final game before the Eagles play in the IHSAA Sectional scheduled for next week.

The game was the second time that the two teams faced off, having previously met in the Mishawaka Marian tournament a month ago. This time, the Eagles met them on their own court, keeping the Slicers to just 23 points at half. The high powered offense of LaPorte was too much for Adams in the second half however as the Slicers ended up defeating the Eagles with a score of 52 – 30.

The team has continued to improve play throughout the year, and Saturday night was an example of that from the free throw line. To end the regular season, the Eagles were 91% from the line, arguably their best performance from the line all season.

Both Marissa Shelton and Makiah McCain scored 8 points for the Eagles, leading the team for the night. Shelton was also 2 for 2 from the free throw line. Loryn Higginbotham, Maria Besario, and Laila Williams all scored 4 points each. Besario and Williams both were 4 for 4 shooting free throws and Higginbotham was 2 for 3. Late in the game Valiyah Grundy scored 2 points.

The Eagles end the regular season with a record of 5-16 overall and 3-9 in the Northern Indiana Conference, finishing tied for 9th in the conference.

Adams will face off against SB St Joseph in the IHSAA Sectional at Mishawaka High School at 6:00 PM on Wednesday January 30.
