Girls Varsity Swimming · Girls Swimming and Diving Finishes 4th at Sectional; Gizzi Crowned Champion

As the weather was warming up outside, the action was hot inside at the IHSAA Girls Swimming and Diving Sectionals at Mishawaka High School. The champions in the swimming events will advance to the State Finals next weekend at IUPUI in Indianapolis. The top 4 in Diving advance to the Diving Regionals on Tuesday night at Penn High School.

The John Adams Eagles finished in 4th place as a team with 195 points.

Diver Lindsay Gizzi was crowned the Sectional Champion with a score of 477.25. Her first place finish qualifies her for the Regional on Tuesday. Gizzi will not be the only Adams Diver advancing. Kate Hensell finished in 4th place with a score of 384.55 and advances as well.

In the pool events, the Eagles fared well. The highest finish in the pool was the 400 Free Relay which finished in 3rd place. Melany Morales Garibay, Lindsay Collins, Eamin Lynch, and Tania Gonzalez swam in 4:06.89.

Lynch, Morales-Garibay, Collins, and Ivie Skube finished 4th in the 200 Medley Relay in 2:05.54. Skube, Gonzalez, Sade Williams, and Cate Garber swam the 200 Free Relay finishing in 6th place with a time of 1:56.09.

In the individual events Morales-Garibay finished 10th in the 200 Freestyle (2:18.54) and Gonzalez finished in 11th (2:19.39). Collins finished 9th (27.89) and Williams finished in 15th (28.97) in the 50 Freestyle. Both swam in the 100 Freestyle as well joined with Mary Cate Baer. Collins finished in 11th place (1:02.51), Williams in 14th place (1:04.47) and Baer in 16th (1:09.14). Morales Garibay swam the 100 Butterfly finishing in 10th place (1:08.93) and Skube finished in 13th place (1:15.59). In the 500 Freestyle Gonzalez finished in 12th place (6:31.88) and Olivia Thompson finished in 15th (6:47.12). Finally in the 100 Backstroke Lynch finished in 7th place (1:06.87), Morgan Baumgart finished 13th (1:16.99), and Baer in 15th place (1:22.51).
