Girls Varsity Track · Girls Track & Field Opens Up Season at Trine Indoor


The Girls Track & Field team began the 2019 season on Saturday morning, competing at Trine University in the Hoosier State Relays Qualifier. The top 24 track, long jump, and shot put athletes and top 18 high jump and pole vault athletes will advance to the Hoosier State Relays at Indiana University on March 23.

The young Adams team, many competing in their first track meets, opened up competition for girls sports for the spring.

Starting things off for Adams in the 3200 Run was Maddie Mischak and Hannah Mihut. Mischak ran 13:10.91 and Mihut ran 13:25.91. In the 60 Meter Dash making their debut for the Eagles Shannell Exum finished with a 8.57 and Rayna Brooks ran 8.77.

The relays took the track in the second half of the meet, with the 4×200 being the first relay for the Eagles on the track.

The 4×200 Relay of Bri Woods, Shannell Exum, Katie Hensell, and Rayna Brooks ran a time of 2:05.70. In the Distance Medley Relay (1200-400-800-1600) Hannah Mihut, Claire Butler, Ivie Skube, and Maddie Mischak finished with 14:59.21.

The 4×400 Relay finished first in the meet in 4:23.02. The Eagles relay of Devyn Moore, Bri Woods, Jordan Mihut, and Ali Mihut are currently ranked in the top 15 on the performance lists as of Sunday evening.

In the field Sophomore Alecia Parker sent a message to the field as she did last year in her first meet. Parker threw 38’8”, placing her near the top of the leaderboard. Emily Murton threw 27’8” and Heather Bowling 26’11”. In the long jump Bri Woods had a leap of 13’8”, Rayna Brooks jumped 12’11” and Katie Hensell 12’1.75”. Finally in the high jump Devyn Moore jumped 4’6”.

Saturday’s meet was not a scoring meet, with athletes competing against runners from around the state to place themselves on the top of the performance list for large schools.

The Eagles will compete again next Saturday, trying to improve their performances at Indiana Wesleyan University.
