The spring weather, the sun and clear skies all returned for the season opener of the John Adams Softball team. Playing at Potawatomi Park, the Eagles hosted in Concord Minutemen in each of the teams first games of the year.
The Eagles trailed throughout much of the game but during the 7th inning, began a rally, trying to close out the game with a won. Four runners scored in the bottom of the 7th but it was just not enough for the Lady Eagles, who fell to Concord with a score of 12-10.
Lexi Davis was 4-4 in plate appearances on Saturday afternoon, with 4 runs and 5 RBI’s and 3 doubles. Olivia VanHeesbeke had 2 runs, 2 hits, and 2 RBI’s. Regan Sheipline had 2 runs, 3 hits and 1 RBI and Haleigh Smith had 2 hits, 3 runs and 1 RBI.
Also scoring for the Lady Eagles was Emily Kidwell, Sadie Sheipline, and Gabby Kovac who each had one run each. As a tea, the Eagles had a total of 15 hits.
Mary Landis was the losing pitcher for the Eagles, pitching all 7 innings allowing 14 hits, 12 runs, while striking out 5 batters.
In the Junior Varsity game Adams won 8-2. Emily Kidwell, Kacey Browning, Gabby Kovac, and Sadie Sheilpine scored 1 run each and Kylie Freymuth and Jenna Trimberger scored 2 runs each in the win over Concord.
The Eagles play again on Wednesday evening at home as they host the Elkhart Memorial Crimson Chargers.
