Monday turned in to a wonderful evening for the Lady Eagles as the softball team hosted Mishawaka High School. Late in the 7th inning, falling behind, the Eagles rallied to take the Northern Indiana Conference win 6-5 over Mishawaka.
Adams got things rolling in the first, scoring 2 runs by Haleigh Smith and Regan Sheipline.
In the third, with bases loaded Adams would go on to score 2 runs, with both Sheipline and Gabby Kovac scoring on a passed ball.
With Adams up 4-2, the Eagles had a comfortable lead heading into the second part of the game. Mishawaka would go on to score 3 in the 6th inning however, erasing the lead, forcing the Eagles to come together to secure the win.
With two outs in the bottom of the 7th. Trailing by one, Smith hit a single and Sheipline was walked, putting two on with Lexi Davis next up at the plate. Davis hit a high fly ball, missed by the Mishawaka outfield on an error, allowing Smith to run in, tying the game up at 5-5. Still with two outs, Elise Hutts came up to the plate and hit a single that drove in the winning run, scored by Sheipline, securing the walk off win for Adams 6-5.
Mary Landis was credited with the win after pitching one inning, allowing only 1 hit and striking out 1. Haleigh Charmat got the start for Adams pitching 6 complete innings, allowing 6 hits and striking out 5 batters.
The Eagles improve to 2-0 in the NIC and 3-4 overall. Adams will play again on Tuesday afternoon in a makeup game from last week at SB St Joseph.
The Junior Varsity team also won over Mishawaka with a score of 10-1.Sadie Sheipline scored 3 runs, Gabby Kovac scored 2, and Aniyah Daniels, Kacey Browning, Emily Kidwell, Leah O’Dell, and Jenna Trimberger all scored 1 run each.
