The weather dried out in time for the baseball team to host Huntington North High School on Saturday to play in a double header.
In the first game of the day, the Eagles would come out victorious, winning 2-1. In the second inning, the Eagles had the bases ready, in perfect scoring position. Carsen Sult grounded into a fielder’s choice, allowing Ben Thompson to score the first run of the day.
The Eagles would have bases loaded again in the fifth inning. Zach Grey was hit by a pitch which brought in Josh Allen for the Eagles to take the lead.
It was enough for Adams to hold on for the win. In the victory, Evan Kroll was credited with the win after pitching 7 complete innings while allowing 5 hits and 1 run all while striking out 5 batters.
The bats came alive for both teams in the second game of the day, with both teams having a combine 18 runs. The Eagles unfortunately lost the lead in the 7th inning, eventually falling to Huntington North 8-10.
In the second inning of the game, Ray Calhoun would single, and eventually go on to score the first run for Adams in the game.
The 5th inning was big and was once again an opportunity for Ben Thompson to showcase his talent. Thompson would go on to hit a home run for Adams, driving in Watkins as well. Prior to the home run, Bryce Martens would hit a double of his own and after a ground ball from Jacaar Watkins, Martens and Sult would go on to score. With Grey at bat and striking out on a wild pitch, it would be an opportunity for Tre Fonseca to come in and score yet another run for Adams.
In the sixth inning, Thompson would once again shine, hitting a triple bringing Zach Searfoss. Thompson would go on to score the final run for Adams off of a single from Fonseca.
Adams will return to action on Monday afternoon in Northern Indiana Conference action, taking on Elkhart Central.
