The Adams Baseball team hosted Elkhart Central on Monday evening in Northern Indiana Conference play. Despite falling behind early, the Eagles tried to claw their way back into the game, even rallying late in the 7th, but were unable to hold off the Blue Blazers, falling in a close match up 6-7.
Adams got things going in the 4th inning after a big play from Josh Allen. With two on base, Allen doubled on a fly but would advance all the way to third base off of a bad throw from Elkhart. Both Ben Thompson and Tre Fonseca would score on the play. Allen would run in to score himself after a passed ball from Elkhart, bringing the score to 3-5 with the Eagles still in it.
In the sixth inning, Allen would single again, taking Fonseca to third on the play. Fonseca would be able to score off of an Elkhart Central error.
Central would score 2 runs in the 7th, but Adams did not count themselves out, beginning to rally to take down the Blazers. With two outs, Bryce Martens hit a single, bringing life to the Adams bench. In the next at bat, Jacaar Watkins hit a double, bringing Martens into scoring position. Martens would score after an error from the third basemen. Watkins would go on to score as well, taking the game to 7-6 but it would not be enough as Adams would get their third out, ending the game.
Adams now has a record of 3-2 in the NIC and 5-5 overall for the year.
The Eagles will play on Tuesday night when they travel to Bremen in NIC action.
