Girls Varsity Softball · Girls Softball Falls in High Scoring Game

Competing in their first game of the 2019 LaPorte Classic Tournament, the game between the Adams Softball team and the LaPorte Slicers turned into a high scoring affair. The two teams combined to score 31 runs and 30 hits in the late evening game. Despite scoring 15 runs, the Eagles were unable to come out with the victory, falling to the Slicers 15 – 16.

Adams took the lead in the first inning, scoring the first 2 runs of the game. Haleigh Smith would get the first run of the game, after the Eagles had the bases loaded. Both Smith and Sadie Sheipline would score off of bases loaded, taking the Eagles to the early lead.

LaPorte came out ready, scoring 11 runs in the bottom of the first. From there, Adams would have to claw their way back into the game. The Eagles, never demoralized and never down, would work their way back to take the lead late in the game.

In the second Adams would score 2 more runs from Regan Sheipline and Sydnee Meredith.

In the fifth the Eagles would score 6 runs, bringing the team back. Lexi Davie hit a double for Adams that would drive in two runs from Meredith and Smith. Olivia VanHeesbeke, Kacey Browning, Gabby Kovac, and Sadie Sheipline would all score, now with Adams only trailing 2 runs.

It was the sixth inning where Adams would take the lead back. With 2 runners on, Smith hit a big double for Adams allowing Sadie Sheipline to score. Jenna Trimberger was in scoring position on third ready to tie it up. Trimberger would tie it up after a pop fly from Regan Sheipline. Smith and Sheipline would score 2 more for  Adams, with the Eagles having the lead for the first time since the first inning.

The Eagles and Slicers were tied up after 7 innings so the game went to extra innings. Mary Landis hit a single with 2 runners on, with Kovac scoring, with Adams now up 14-13.

In a series of unfortunate events for the Eagles, LaPorte would go to win the game after a walk off 2 run home-run.

Davis, VanHeesbeke, Meredith, and Smith all had doubles for Adams and Davis had 4 RBIs, Sheipline, Landis, Smith and Browning each had 2 RBIs and Kovac had 1.

Adams will continue play in the tournament on Saturday at around 12:00 EST
