The 116th Annual Boys Track & Field Tournament begins on Thursday May 16 and the 46th Annual Girls Track & Field State Tournament begins on Tuesday May 14.
Both the John Adams boys and girls teams will be competing at the IHSAA Sectional Meet at Penn High School.
Gates for the event will open at 4:00 PM and cost of admission is $6.00 per individual.
Field events for both meets will begin at 5:00 PM.
The 3200 Relay will start at 5:10 followed by the running trials scheduled to go off at 5:30 PM. The running finals will follow, beginning at 6:40 PM.
The top 3 in each event, those that meet the Three-Participant State Standard, and the next individuals to bring the total to 16 will advance to the Regional level.
The girls will compete in the Warsaw Regional on Tuesday May 21 while the boys will compete in the Kokomo Regional scheduled for Thursday May 23.
Teams competing in the Penn Sectional for both boys and girls include:
Glenn, LaVille, Mishawaka, Mishawaka Marian, Penn, SB Adams, SB Clay, SB Riley, SB St Joseph, and SB Washington High Schools.
The following restrictions have been announced by the IHSAA at all levels of the IHSAA Tournament:
- Banners, placards, and/or posters are not permitted.
- No battery-powered or electronic noisemakers, sirens or whistles are allowed.
- Cheerleaders are not permitted on the playing field.
- No live animal mascots are permitted.
It shall be the responsibility of each high school principal to see that the above restrictions are enforced.

The Boys Track and Field team has won eight IHSAA Sectional Championships, winning in 1945, 1946, 1961, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1986, and 2005.
The Girls Track & Field team has won 10 IHSAA Sectional Championships in 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2015 and have won seven IHSAA Regional Championships, winning in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, and 2011.
