Across the state on Monday night, high school softball teams began their quest for a State Championship. The Adams Softball team opened up the 2019 4A Sectional at Mishawaka against crosstown rival SB Riley.
It was all Adams in the game as the Eagles dominated and rolled to victory 23 – 1 over the Lady Wildcats.
Regan Sheipline would strike first for Adams, scoring the first of many runs of the game.
It was a big second inning where Adams scored 18 runs that showed that the team was far from ready for the season to be over just yet.
Adams would have bases loaded several times in the inning, capitalizing each time to score.
Sydnee Meredith would score 3 runs in the second, Lexis Lawton, Olivia VanHeesbeke, Sadie Sheipline, Regan Sheipline, Haleigh Smith, Josie Garver and Lexi Davis scored 2 runs each, and Elise Hutts scored 1 run.
Evening in an inning with all the excitement, the highlight was a Garver home run out to center field.
Smith hit a triple in the inning and the Eagles had doubles from Smith, Meredith, Garver, and Davis.
Up 19-0 now, the Eagles were not done quite yet. Smith hit a 3 run home run on a pop fly to left field, bringing in VanHeesbeke and Kylie Freymuth with her.
Adams would get one more in the third from Jenna Trimberger.
Hailie Charmat took the win from the pitcher circle, pitching 4 inning allowing no hits and only one run later in the game while striking out 9 batters.
Adams will play Penn High School in the Sectional Semifinals on Wednesday night. The game will begin at 5:00 PM at Baker Bark in Mishawaka.
