If you attend an event at John Adams High School, chances are you will see the familiar face of Coach Andre Scruggs there. Coach Scruggs is always around for the students of John Adams, supporting them in and out of the classroom, academics, athletics, and fine arts.
On Thursday June 6, Andre Scruggs was recognized by the faculty and staff of John Adams as the 2019 Wayne Fassett Memorial Employee of the Year.
Coach Scruggs dedicates countless hours week in and week out to help the John Adams Community.
Coach Scruggs is the Head Wrestling Coach at John Adams as well as an Assistant Coach in both Cross Country and Track & Field and works as a security guard at the school during the school day.
There is probably no other individual in the John Adams community who is so selfless and so humble in their work and dedication to the students of John Adams. No matter who the student is, Coach Scruggs will help them out at any time of day no matter what they may need. From the early morning practices, the late night meets, the daily work in the school and then coming back to help at other events, Coach Scruggs never complains and always comes with the positive attitude that is needed in education.
Coach Scruggs, who was totally caught off guard with the award was joined by four of his pole vaulters.
Coach Scruggs is a local legend in the wrestling community as an athlete, coach, official, and supporter of the sport. Scruggs has been involved in many local, state, national, and international wrestling events over the years, teaching and guiding young wrestlers as they improve their skills.
In 2010, Coach Scruggs was inducted in to the Indiana Wrestling Hall of Fame.
