The Adams Girls Cross Country team had an almost picture perfect morning to run their first meet of the year on Saturday at Oxbow Park in Elkhart County. The Lady Eagles were competing in the NIC Stomp, a unique race in that it divides runners based on grade level, rather than varsity/junior varsity.
The Freshman and Sophomore Girls ran first, and as a team Adams finished in 7th place with a total of 191 points.
Delany Packard was the first freshman girl to cross the line for Adams, running in her first race with a time of 24:40, which was 37th overall in the race. She was joined by fellow Eagles Addison Skube (25:22), Betsy Leija (26:28), Izzy Camilleri (28:54), Rajiya Weaver (31:46), and Kylie Armstrong (38:58).
Later in the morning, the Junior Senior Girls raced, with the Lady Eagles finishing in 7th place as well. The team finished with a score of 168.
Ivie Skube finished first for Adams, finishing in 18th place with a time of 21:42. Not far behind was Maddie Mischak who ran 22:06. The remaining Adams scorers were Claire Stowe (23:48), Monica Caponiigro (24:17), Hannah Connell (24:49), Kasia Hochwald (26:08), and Ruby Delgado (31:35).
Combined scores from the meet amongst Northern Indian Conference schools will determine starting boxes for the NIC Championship Meet at the end of the season.
The Eagles will run again next Saturday in the Penn Invitational at Elm Road School
