Playing in the same field as some of the top ranked teams in the State this weekend, the Adams Girls Soccer team went 0-1-2 at the 2019 St Joe Invitational at Newton Park. The Eagles played three games in two days.
The Lady Eagles played in their first game on Friday night, taking on Lake Central. Both Adams and Lake Central would battle it out, going back and forth in the game, and the two teams eventually ended the game in a tie with a score of 2-2.
The Indians struck first, but Anna Rosato answered back in the 26th minute to tie the game up. Rosato was able to score on a penalty kick. Nyah Smith gave the Eagles the lead in the 36th minute when she scored an unassisted goal. Unfortunately, Lake Central scored late in the game to tie it up and take the lead away.
Adams had 10 shots at the Indians goal. Goalkeeper Makiah McCain started her weekend off on a positive note, ending the game with 10 saves.
On Saturday morning Adams was right back at it, taking on the Belmont Braves. The Eagles had a total of 14 shots on goal in the game, but trailed through the entire first half. With the halftime adjustments, it was all Adams in the second half of play. Carla Hernandez struck first for Adams in the 43rd minute, putting the pressure on Bellmont. Hernandez was assisted by Emilie Vereb. As time was winding down, Veronica Karban scored in the 78th minute to tie the game up. Time expired however before Adams was able to strike again and the two teams ended the game in a 2-2 tie.
Makiah McCain had 6 saves in goal.
Later in the afternoon, Adams played in their final game of the tournament. The Lady Eagles were unable to get any of their 12 shots on goal into the net. Adams would eventually lose 0-1 to McCutcheon.
Adams is 1-1-2 for the season. The Eagles will play another non conference game on Thursday at home against the Plymouth Pilgrims.
In the Junior varsity portion of the tournament, Adams went 0-2. On Friday Adams lost 4-1 to Penn. Celia Rebollero-Garcia scored the lone goal for the Eagles. On Friday morning, Adams lost 0-2 to St Joseph.
