Boys Varsity Football · Football Falls in Final Seconds to Riley

The weather was cool and misty, more like fall than later summer, but that did not take the energy out of the air on Friday night at TCU School Field when the Adams Football team hosted crosstown rival SB Riley.

The two teams battled it out throughout the game, with the final score not being decided until the final play of the game with time expiring.

On the first possession of the game, Adam would march down field, but it was an impressive 35 yard touchdown throw from Ira Armstead to Sydney Jefferies that would light things up for Adams.

Adams would have to fight their way back into the game, down 7-20 early on at the start of the second half.

Jefferies had a big lay for Adams that would bring the Eagles back into the game. Jefferies would break up a fake punt attempt from the Wildcats deep in Their own territory, allowing Adams to get excellent ball position deep in the red zone. Armstead would score for Adams on the possession on a 5 yard run as time was running out in the third quarter.

Jefferies would come up big for Adams in the fourth quarter with an interception early in the period and then nearing the end of the game, caught a 38 yard pass, putting the Eagles in position to win the game. Armstead would score on the following plays, taking the Eagles up 19-20, but Adams was unable to tie it on the point after following a bad snap.

Things really started to heat up in the final minute of the game. With 50 seconds remaining, Adams had the chance to put the game away, moving their way down field. With 4 seconds remaining to play, Adams elected to try for the field goal to win. Unfortunately for Adams, the kick was no good and the Eagles lost to the Wildcats 19-20.

Adams now falls to 0-3 for the 2019 season.
