Driven and determined were the words to describe the Adams Volleyball team on Thursday night in what turned out to be an extremely emotional evening.The Eagles remembered and honored the recent loss of Mr. Jeff Hull, a fixture at John Adams, and the teams announcer and scorekeeper. The team dedicated their evening to his memory.
Adams took that drive as they took on Mishawaka Marian in a Northern Indiana Conference matchup. In the first set, both teams came prepared to play well, but it was Marian who won with a score of 17-25. Adams worked their way back in the second set, winning 25-22.
The third set was some of the best action that the team has put together all season. Adams worked as a team and never gave up. The exciting set went back and forth as the teams worked hard to get the final points. Marian edged out Adams 27-25 to win.
In the fourth set, Adams was unable to come back, losing to the Knights 5-25.
Sophia Salas had 50 digs against the Knights, Aubrey Richardson had 28, and Sydney Lewandowski had 19. SeSe Scheffler also added 6 solo blocks against Marian. Lauren Miller ended the night with 12 kills and Abby Holmes added an additional 10 of her own. CC Johnson finished with a total of 27 kills.
Both the Junior Varsity and Freshman teams for Adams did win over Marian. Junior Varsity won 2-1 with scores of 25-13, 16-25, 15-2. The Freshman also won 2-1 with score of 25-20, 18-25, and 15-11.
Adams will compete on Saturday in the Goshen Invitational.
