Boys Varsity Tennis · Boys Tennis Season Ends at Sectional Championship Match

The 2019 Boys Tennis Season has come to an end in the IHSAA Tournament, but not after advancing to the Sectional Finals and making Penn work for every set.

Adams advanced to the Sectional Championships Thursday night after defeating Mishawaka Marian in the opening round of the tournament on Wednesday night.

On Wednesday, the Eagles won by sweeping the Knights 5-0. Three of the Adams victories came with a perfect match. Number 2 and 3 Singles Marty Stoner and Michael Dunham and Number 2 Doubles Jacob Lutz / Johnathan Zapf won 6-0, 6-0. Number 1 Singles Ben Guerrero and Number 1 Doubles Vian Mariani / Peter Nagy were all near perfect, with each winning 6-1, 6-0.

The win took the Eagles to play for the Sectional Championship on Thursday night against the host Kingsmen. Earlier in the season, Penn and Adams were locked in a match that saw the Eagles just narrowly miss out on defeating the Kingsmen. The Eagles looked to do the same in the Sectional finals.

It was Penn who would win the match 3-2, ending the season for Adams.

Stoner and Dunham both won their matches at singles. Stoner won 6-0, 6-1 and Dunham won 6-4, 6-0. Gurerro lost 0-6, 2-6; Mariani/Nagy lost 1-6, 0-6; and Lutz/Zapf lost 1-6, 4-6.

Adams finishes the season as Sectional Runner Ups and an overall record of 13 wins and 5 losses as a team.

Congratulations on a great year Eagles!
