Fall arrived in South Bend over the weekend, creating some perfect and ideal conditions for a cross country race in the area. It was picture perfect for the Girls Cross Country team on Saturday, running at the IHSAA Sectional Meet at Erskine Park Golf Course.
The Lady Eagles were unable to fill a full team of 5 members in order to score, so all four Adams runners were running as individuals trying to advance to next week’s Regional on their own.
The top five teams and the top 10 runners from non advancing teams will move on to the Regional Meet at Oxbow Park next Saturday.
From the starting gun, Adams had a presence in the top 20 in the race. As they have most of the season, Maddie Mischak and Ivie Skube ran almost hand in hand throughout the challenging and hilly course. Approaching the last 800 of the race the two toughed it out up the brutal hill and then sprinted downhill to the finish. Mischak finished in 19th place with a time of 22:08 and Skube was just behind in 20th in 22:12. Both Mischak and Skube were recognized as all conference finishers.
Addison Skube finished in 34th place overall with a time of 23:32. Betsy Leija Castaneda ran a time of 25:40, which was good for 42nd place in the race.
Both Skube’s and Mischak advanced as individuals to the Elkhart Regional next weekend to be run at Oxbow Park.
