The opening round of the IHSAA Football Tournament began on Friday night for the John Adams Eagles. Across the state, teams were looking to begin their quest for the State Finals at Lucas Oil Stadium. For all teams, its win or the season comes to an end.
It was a unique night for Adams as they were playing the home game not at TCU School Field, but a few miles away at Clay Field.
It was perfect football weather, cool temperatures and a nice clear forecast. The Adams players were not cool in the opening minutes of play. They were ready to avenge the loss to Elkhart Central from a few weeks earlier. Sydney Jefferies had a stellar game for the Eagles. In the first quarter he caught an errant Blazer pass for an interception and later in the quarter on a fumble on a punt, Jefferies was right in the middle of it to recover the fumble, setting up a nice drive for the Eagles down field.
Just after halftime, Adams found momentum after a Central pass into the endzone was batted away and was picked up by James Jordan. Adams was able to begin a drive that began at the Central 1 yard line.
Unfortunately for Adams, the offense was never able to finish the scoring drives and the defense was unable to stop Central once the Blazers got going. Adams lost 35-0 and the season came to an end.
Congratulations on the season Eagles!
