A trip to the IHSAA State Finals was on the line for the Boys Cross Country team on Saturday afternoon. Two Adams runners, William Neubauer and Sami Mirza competed in the IHSAA New Haven Semi State at Purdue Fort Wayne.
The weather made for an interesting race day, adding yet another element to the race. Before the boys race the cold, windy, rainy weather gripped the course, but would not stop the race or slow the runners down on their quest to advance to State.
From the firing of the gun to the end of the race, Neubauer ran an impressive race. Neubauer got out to a strong start to run near the front of the pack in the race. He held that position throughout the meet, running a quality race despite what some might think would be adverse conditions. Neubauer finished with a time of 16:27 on the clock. That time was good for 32nd place.
Mirza also ran well in the adverse conditions, leaving it all on the course in his final cross country race in an Eagle uniform. Mirza gutted it out, crossing the line in 17:36, good for 116th place.
The top six teams and top 10 individuals from non advancing teams advance to the IHSAA State Finals on November 2. Since Adams did not make it as a team, Neubauer and Mirza were seeking the exclusive individual spots. Neubauer fell just short of qualifying for State.
Complete results of the meet can be found at New Haven Semi State Results
The Boys Cross Country season came to an end at the Semi State Meet. Adams will compete again on August 22, 2020 in the NIC Stomp.
Congratulations on a great season Boys Cross Country!
