John Adams High School is proud to announce that Matthew Byers will be the Head Boys Track Coach starting this school year. Matt is a 2007 graduate of Adams High School. Matt ran Cross Country and Track during his years at Adams. He went on to Indiana University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education in 2011. Matt then went on to North Central University where he earned his Master’s Degree in Education (Sports Management) in 2015.
Principal Jim Seitz had this to say about Matt: ““We are excited for Coach Matt Byers to lead the JA Boys Track Team. Coach Byers is a true educator and we continue the wonderful tradition of excellence that the JA Track Team has enjoyed for many years. Matt is a vital part of the JA family and we look forward to him working with our tremendous student-athletes.”
Matt has helped coach track and cross country at Adams for the last 8 years. He has been the high jump/long jump coach on the track team for the last several years. Matt is also an IHSAA track & Field official for the past 5 years and is USA Track & Field certified as well.
Bob Tull, Dean of Students/Athletic Director, states, “Matt is a welcome addition. He brings great enthusiasm, experience and expertise to our Boys Track team and Cross Country teams.
We are always happy to have another Adams graduate on staff.”
Coach Savino Rivera (Head Cross Country Coach, Head Girls Track Coach) has worked closely with Matt. “Matt has gained the respect of all student/athletes in building bridges with all athletic teams. Matt will be a great asset to our boys track and field program as he brings a wealth of knowledge with him.”
Matthew also serves as the Athletic Department Sports Information Director. In his 2nd year in this position, Matt updates the website and sends sports scores and stories out to the local media outlets.
Currently Matt is a Social Studies Teacher at LaSalle Academy.
