Fighting hard and never giving up was the attitude that the Girls Basketball team had on the court on Thursday night when they hosted the Mishawaka Marian Nights in a Northern Indiana Conference game. Even when the Knights pulled away in the first half and held the lead going into the lockers at halftime, the Lady Eagles never gave up.
The defensive action of the team stepped up second half of play, shutting down the high power offense of Marian and allowing Adams to refocus themselves and claw their way back into the game. And that is just what Adams did, shaving away at the lead Marian had to within just a few points in the fourth quarter. While Adams did outscore Marian in the second half, it was not enough to take the win, with Adams falling with a score of 66-53.
Two Adams players had steller nights on the court. Marissa Shelton led the team again with a total of 14 points as well as forcing several turnovers while on defense. Shelton hit three 3 point shots to add to her total. Sophomore Myah Allen had break through game as well. Allen ended the night with 14 points, including two big three point buckets in the fourth as the Eagles were cutting at the lead. Allen was also 2 for 2 from the free throw line.
Laila Williams scored 9 points, Loryn Higginbotham scored 6 points, Daquejiha Vaughn had 4 points, Lazia Walker scored 3 points, and McKenna Leichty had 2 points.
Adams will play again at home on Saturday afternoon when they host non conference opponent Goshen.
