Boys Varsity Basketball · Boys Basketball Rolls Past Rival SB Riley

The 140th edition of the rivalry between SB Adams and SB Riley was just as exciting as many of the previous 139 meetings between the two boys basketball teams. On Tuesday night, The Eagles and the Wildcats faced off in a non conference matchup inside Hadaway’s Shack. With an electric atmosphere, Adams hoped to keep its undefeated season alive. The highly energetic crowd added to the intensity of the game and both teams fed off of the support of their fans.

Adams was able to build and enjoy a lead in the game despite Riley attempting to claw their way back into the action several times. In the first three quarters, Adams outscored the Wildcats building the lead that would help secure their eventual victory. While Riley outpaced the Eagles by a few points in the fourth, it was no threat to the final outcome of the game, with Adams claiming the win and building their overall lead in the series that dates back to 1940. Adams won with a final score of 63-50. Adams extends it lead in the series to 73 wins compared to Riley’s 68 wins.

Eight Adams players contributed to the scoring in the win over Riley. Sydney Jefferies led the Eagles with a season-high 17 points. Jefferies was also 5 for 7 on his free throws. Brayden Saxton also had a season high night in scoring as well. Saxton scored 15 points for Adams including shooting 75% from the line.

Quentez Columbus scored 10 points, Lynn King had 7 points, Jessie Morgan made 6 points, Chuck Worsham shot 4 points, and Matt Anella and Harry Jeffers each had 2 points each.

Adams remains perfect for the season at 5-0 and are still 2-0 in the Northern Indiana Conference. With the game being a non conference game, it will not count toward the overall conference standings. Riley and Adams will meet again in February near the end of the season.

Adams will play again on Thursday night on the road taking on the Jimtown Jimmies.
