Friday night capped off a grueling week for the Adams Boys Basketball team. After two games earlier in the week and a week full of final exams in the classroom, the Eagles were back at home to take on non conference opponent LaPorte.
Despite the tough week behind them, Adams looked to build on the momentum of the previous victories and start of the winter break with a win. The Eagles did just that. After battling it out with the Slicers for control of the game in the opening quarter, it was all Adams the rest of the game. Adams pulled away from LaPorte in the middle of the second quarter, building a lead to nearly 20 points by halftime. The Eagles kept that tempo up throughout the second half, and the Slicers were never able to cut the lead that Adams had built. When the final buzzer sounded, Adams kept the perfect season alive, winning 68-47.
The entire Adams roster saw action off the bench on Friday night. All 11 players contributed defensively to stop the Slicers drive to the basket. Eight of those players scored themselves.
Leading the way was Quentez Columbus and Brayden Saxton. Columbus scored 19 points. He hit two 3 point shots and was an impressive 5 for 6 from the free throw line. Saxton had an equally impressive 18 points.
Sydney Jefferies had 11 points and Lynn King had 9 points. King was a perfect 2 for 2 on free throws and hit a 3-point shot as well. Jessie Morgan had 6 points, Chuck Worsham and Kyrin McClatchey each scored 2 points, and Harry Jeffers had 1 point.
Adams remains undefeated for the season with an overall record of 7-0. The team looks to take that impressive start to the year into the Phil Cox Memorial Tournament at Kokomo HS next week. Adams will open play in the tournament on Friday against Franklin Central.
