Girls Varsity Soccer · Coach Caryn MacKenzie Announces Retirement

After a career at John Adams that spanned nearly three decades over two different stints, Girls Soccer Head Coach Caryn MacKenzie has announced her retirement from coaching the Adams Eagles Girls Soccer team.

Coach MacKenzie made the official announcement to her team at the Fall Sports banquet in November. She leaves a program that has built a tradition of success both on and off the field “At the fall banquet this year, Karen commended her players for giving of themselves to be part of something bigger than themselves.  That phrase sums up Caryn’s contribution to Adams soccer. She gave so much of herself to the program and she will be missed” as praised by Athletic Director Bob Tull.

Coach MacKenzie was hired as the Girls Soccer coach in 1994 after several years as an assistant with the team. Coach MacKenzie was head coach during two different periods from 1994-2003 and then again from 2014-2019. During her tenure as head coach, Coach MacKenzie led the Lady Eagles to 3 IHSAA Sectional Championships (1997, 2002, 2004), 1 IHSAA Regional Championship (2002), 6 Northern Indiana Conference Championships (1995, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2002) and was named NIC Coach of the Year 4 times (1998, 1999, 2001, 2016). Coach MacKenzie also coached 5 players to NIC Most Valuable Players and had 89 players named NIC All Conference.

Coach MacKenzie played collegiately at Quincy University where she was inducted into the Quincy University Hall of Fame in 2018. She has contributed to and coached soccer at the local, high school, collegiate, national, and even international level in her career.

Adams Principal had nothing but praise for Couch MacKenzie. “Caryn MacKenzie has been a guiding light for the girls soccer players at John Adams High School for many years.  Coach leaves the program in very great shape. We will miss her on the sidelines and wish her the best of luck in the future. Thank you Coach!”

Thank you for so many years of dedication and all you have done for the student athletes of John Adams High School and best of luck in your future adventures Coach MacKenzie!
