Always one of the most competitive events in high school wrestling, the Al Smith Invitational, hosted by Mishawaka High School kicks off next week and once again the John Adams Eagles will compete in the event. The 41st Al Smith Invite will be held on Friday and Saturday December 27 and 28.
Schools competing in the event include Bellmont, Bloomington South, Carroll, Center Grove, Chesterton, Columbus East, Crown Point, Elkhart Central, Elkhart Memorial, Ft. Wayne Snider, Garrett, Goshen, Hobart, Indianapolis Cathedral, Jimtown, Lake Central, LaPorte, Lowell, Merrillville, Mishawaka, Northridge, NorthWood, Penn, Perry Meridian, Peru, Plymouth, Prairie Heights, S.B. Adams, S.B. Riley, Warsaw Community, Wawasee, and Zionsville.
Doors will open to spectators at 8:30 AM both days and wrestling begins at approximately 10:00 AM on Friday and will go until there are 4 wrestlers in the losers bracket and 4 wrestlers in the winner’s bracket in each weight class. Wrestling will begin at 9:00 AM on Saturday and the finals will begin at 1:30 PM.
The Al Smith Invite can be followed on Track Wrestling throughout both days.
Admission prices are $10 for adults per day and children 12 and under are $5.
The top three teams will receive a trophy and the top 8 wrestlers in each weight class will receive medals.
