After a third place finish over Winter Break at the Tipton Holiday Tournament, the Girls Basketball team was back in action in the final month of the regular season on Tuesday night. Playing a Northern Indiana Conference game at SB Clay, the Lady Eagles were looking to finish the last month out strong.
The Lady Colonials would not go down easily, however, and it took extra time to finally determine a winner in overtime.
Throughout much of the game, Clay held the slight advantage, but the Lady Eagles were never down more than a few points, making it a competitive game. In the final few minutes, on a drive led by Daqueijah Vaughn and Loryn Higginbotham, Adams tied the game up as time in regulation expired. In the final quarter Vaughn scored 8 points and Higginbotham scored 6. It was McKenna Leichty however that was the hero of the final minute of the game. With less than a minute to go, Leichty scored the bucket that would tie the game up, taking the game to overtime.
The overtime period was just as exciting as the first 32 minutes. Adams was able to pull away just in time, winning by 1 point with a score of 56-55.
Marissa Shelton was the leading scorer for Adams in the game. Shelton, who got hot early in the game hit three 3 point shots and finished the night with 18 points.
Both Vaughn and Higginbotham who helped lead the drive in the fourth quarter scored 14 points each. Laila Williams scored 6 points and Whitney Marshall and Myah Allen each scored 2 points.
Adams is now 5-11 overall and 3-6 in the NIC this season. The Lady Eagles will play again on Thursday night when they host Penn.
