The Girls Basketball team opened up its final stretch of the season, all on the road, on Wednesday night, taking on non conference opponent Elkhart Memorial.
Adams and Elkhart Memorial both started off strong. The teams were tied at 15-15 at the end of the first quarter. The Eagles went cold in the second quarter, with the Chargers holding Adams to only 6 points, causing Adams to trail 36-21 at half time. By the time the fourth quarter arrived, it was rally time for the Lady Eagles, and that is just what Adams did. With new momentum, the Eagles went on a scoring drive, scoring 20 points in the final 8 minutes of play. The defense also came on strong, holding Elkhart Memorial to only 10 points, its fewest of the night. It was not enough though and Adams would lose to Elkhart Memorial by only 10 points with a score of 59-49.
Nine Adams players scored in the game that took a total team effort. Marissa Shelton was the leading scorer for the Lady Eagles. Shelton scored 16 points, with 12 of those points coming off of three pointers. Both Lazia Walker and Laila Williams had 7 points each. Walker hit one three point shot and was 2 for 2 on free throws. Williams was a perfect 3 for 3 from the free throw line. Loryn Higginbotham scored 6 points, Samaya Sigur scored 5 points, and Whitney Marshall, McKenna Leichty, and Anna Fuller all scored 2 points each.
In the game, the Adams defense forced a total of 30 turnovers.
Adams will play again on Saturday evening when they travel to take on Munster HS.
