A trip to the Semi State was on the line on Saturday for the Wrestling team as the team competed in the IHSAA Regional held at Penn HS.
Three wrestlers for Adams represented the team – Andrew Hernandez (113), Chykeem Crawford (182), and Joseph Phillips (285).
Hernandez was the first to wrestle for the Eagles. Hernandez lost in the Quarterfinals, losing to his Wawasee opponent, getting pinned with about 30 seconds remaining in the second period.
Crawford was next up. Going all three periods in the Quarterfinals, Crawford would eventually lose to his LaVille opponent by Decision, with a match score of 10-4.
Phillips was victorious in his Quarterfinal match, securing the trip to the Semi State. Phillips won by Decision over his Tippy Valley opponent with a close match score of 2-1. In the Semifinals, Phillips lost, getting pinned by his Penn opponent just 30 seconds into the second period. He was able to rebound, and come back to win in the third place match. Phillips won with a pin over his Riley opponent in the third period. The win secured a 3rd place finish at 285 pounds in the Regional.
As a team, Adams scored 11 points and finished in 10th place overall.
Joe Phillips will compete next Saturday in the IHSAA Semi State hosted at East Chicago HS.
