The two schools are just under two miles apart, but the rivalry that has been building over the last few years is much more between John Adams and SB St Joseph. On Tuesday night, the Boys Basketball team traveled that short distance to take on the Indians in a critical game in the Northern Indiana Conference. Adams knew what was on the line with the game and played their hearts out in every minute of action.
As the game opened up, Adams went off on an 15-0 run, with every single Adams starter scoring in that drive. When St Joseph did get a swing in the momentum their way through the second quarter, the Eagles defense was not going to be deterred. The poise of the team allowed Adams to take a lead into halftime. Both Adams and St Joseph gutted it out throughout the second half of play, but heading into the final minutes of action, the game was still on the line. With less than a minute left, the Indians took their first lead of the game, but they were not able to enjoy it very long. With just 30 seconds remaining Quentez Columbus was able to score, helping to secure the victory. The Eagles would hold on to win 65-64. The win also allowed Adams to stay perfect in the NIC and atop the conference.
Quentez Columbus led the way for the Eagles in the game. Columbus hit 2 three point shots and ended up scoring 19 points.
Sydney Jefferies scored 7 points, Lynn King had 10 points and hit 2 three pointers as well, Brayden Saxton scored 8 points, Jessie Morgan had 6 points, Chuck Worsham made 3 points, and TeVaughn Columbus scored 2 points.
The Eagles were 69% from the free throw line and the defensive side of the ball forced 18 turnovers.
Adams is still a perfect 8-0 in the NIC and 16-3 overall. The Eagles will play again on Friday night when they host Mishawaka.
