Eagles News · Jeff Hull Student Athlete Award Announced

On Friday, February 14, John Adams High School will officially announce the creation of the Jeff Hull Student-Athlete Award.  The announcement will be made prior to the Boys Basketball game with Mishawaka. (Approximately 7:30pm)

Jeff Hull suddenly and tragically passed away last fall and the Adams family will honor his contributions and memory by establishing this award.

Jeff’s wife, Kathy, and their children will be present for the announcement.

All members of the John Adams and South Bend Communities are invited to attend this event.  It is also Senior night for the Senior members of the Cheer team and Boys Basketball Team.

Jeff Hull epitomized what it meant to be a John Adams Eagle. Jeff was a 1975 graduate of John Adams High School. His entire family graduated from Adams. He was a proud member of the 1974 Boys Basketball Sectional Championship Team. He worked at John Adams and the South Bend School Corporation for over 30 years. He coached, he kept scorebooks, he ran game clocks, he took tickets, he worked security, he announced, he umpired, he chaperoned, and did anything necessary in service to John Adams.

In a society that all too often sees people with poor character and poor work ethic, Jeff Hull always displayed great character and work ethic. Jeff never missed a day of work and always put the students of John Adams High School first. Jeff was more than an employee. Jeff was a family member, a friend, and a mentor to all Adams students, faculty, and staff.

It is in this spirit that we establish the Jeff Hull Student-Athlete Award.

Coaches will nominate student athletes that best represents the spirit of Jeff Hull and John Adams High School by the way they practice, compete, and support other members of the team. This student best represents the legacy of Jeff Hull. This award will be based on the character they displayed while participating in sports at Adams.

A committee of school representatives will evaluate the nominees. One male award and one female award will be presented at the Spring Sports banquet.

In this way we hope to honor the memory of Jeff Hull and keep his spirit alive at John Adams High School for years to come.

Please plan on joining the entire John Adams community this Friday to honor our departed friend Jeff Hull.
