Friday night was what high school basketball in Indiana is all about when the Eagles Boys Basketball team took on the Michigan City Wolves in the semifinals of the IHSAA Sectional played at LaPorte HS. The two teams played a physical game, and gutted it out in every single possession in front of a gymnasium that was packed full of energetic fans.
Adams was looking to avenge its loss to Michigan City earlier in the season, and the Wolves were not about to go down quietly. Both teams were evenly matched up and down the court, and it was clear from the beginning that the game would be a close one. Adams held the slight edge through the first half. In the last few minutes before halftime, Adams got hot, to extend the lead to the greatest that it was up to that point at 28-20. During the third quarter, Adams was able to extend that lead to 12, leading by 40-28 at the end of the third. It was then that Michigan City got hot, as the Wolves outscored Adams 24-16 in the final 8 minutes of action. Adams was able to survive that surge, and thanks to some clutch free throws from Sydney Jefferies and Quentez Columbus in the final minute, Adams soared to victory 56-52.
The win put the Eagles into the Sectional Championship game to be played on Saturday night against Culver Military Academy.
Jefferies led the team in scoring, ending the night with 16 points as well as going 5 for 7 from the free throw line. Columbus was not far behind, scoring 15 points, including 2 big three pointers and free throws at the end.
Brayden Saxton scored 9 points, Lynn King and Jessie Morgan both had 6 points, and Chuck Worsham scored 4 points.
Adams will play at 7:00 PM EST at LaPorte HS in the Sectional Championship game versus Culver Academy.
