John Adams Athletics is recognizing all of its outstanding Senior Student Athletes for their outstanding work in athletics, the classroom, and their amazing leadership.
What was your favorite memory at John Adams or your favorite moment in high school athletics?
Definitely the pasta parties throughout my years in cross country.
Did you have a pre meet/pre race ritual?
Yes we always sang our chant. The boys and girls had a different one but we would meet in the middle and the coaches would give us a pep talk. The runner would then return to the line and get ready to race.
What is one thing that you had to have in your sports bag before you got on the bus?
3 pairs of socks
What was your favorite course?
OxBow Park, it was the course we visited often and I knew how to pace myself and when to start pushing myself more.
What was your inspiration or who inspired you to compete?
Easily, the coaches. I know they yelled because they saw the potential I had to PR and work my way up to beating other runners.
What is your favorite quote related to athletics
“It’s the little things” -Scruggs
Are there any achievements, awards, or honors you would like us to acknowledge?
Yes, I won most improved this past year as well as the 4 year award. I was also a part of the 2018 JV City champions.
Advice for underclassmen and your teammates?
Please find your own pace. Do not try to jump into being the best, you have to train. Talent can only take you so far, but determination and practice will do you better on the course.
What message would you like to send to the John Adams community and fans?
Thank you so much for your continuous support throughout my years in school.
What are your future plans?
In the fall of 2020 I plan on attending Indiana University as a Groups/21st Century/Hudson and Holland Scholar. I am not sure about my major just yet, but I know that I am prepared to overcome any obstacle.
Who would you like to thank or recognize?
I would like to thank Coach Byers, Coach Scruggs, and Coach Rivera for being one of the most supportive leaders. I have learned so much from you all and I cannot wait to apply my running knowledge to everyday life.
