A power failure, eight days between the first kick and the final goal, rain, and cold, two fields, overtime, and penalty kicks all could not stop the Girls Soccer team on their quest to take on the Mishawaka Marian Knights.
The game between the two teams began on the perfect fall evening on Wednesday September 23 at Tallman Beyrer Field. Adams and Marian battled it out on the pitch in the Northern Indiana Conference matchup. Neither team was able to get the advantage over each other, with both teams playing well. Halfway through the second half, with 26 minutes minutes remaining in regulation, a power surge hit the area, causing a failure to the lights at the field and a suspension of play due to lack of light.
THe game resumed play a week later on Thursday October 1, this time finishing up on the turf at TCU School Field. With the rain lifting and the cold winds blowing, the Eagles and Knights could not take each other down, ending regulation in a 0-0 draw. Under NIC rules, both teams took to overtime, where neither team was able to score once again.
The game would have to be decided by penalty kicks. With the pressure on, the Lady Eagles remained calm as they were facing off against the top ranked team in Class 2A. Veronica Karban made the first kick for the Eagles, putting Adams up. Alexis Willour made a second for Adams. In goal, Keeper Makiah McCain came up with 3 big blocks, preventing the Knights from even getting the chance to get on the board. Emilie Vereb made the final kick for Adams, putting Adams up 3-0, sealing the victory as the Eagle took down the #1 Knights to close out the regular season.
Adams finishes the regular season with a record of 6-4-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the NIC.
Adams will open up play in the IHSAA Sectional on Thursday taking on SB Riley at TCU School Field
