Girls Varsity Swimming · Girls Swim Opens Season with Win; Zyniewicz Sets 3 Recrods


Girls Swimming and Diving team kicked of the Winter Sports season on Thursday night in a Northern Indiana Conference matchup on the road taking on Elkhart.After a strong year last season, the Lady Eagles looked to continue that with its mix of strong swimmers and divers made up of both experienced upperclassmen and strong underclassmen.

Adams started off the season on a strong note, defeating the Lions 108.5 to 77.5.

It was Freshmen Adele Zyniewicz who stole the show, making her debut at Adams and setting three school records in the meet. The first record fell in the 50 Freestyle where Zyniewicz won in a time of 24.34. Later in the 100 Fly, Zyniewicz won again in a blazing time of 58.55. Finally, in the final event of the evening, Zyniewicz led off the relay, breaking the record in the 100 Free with a split of 53.00.

The 50 Free and 100 Free records had been in place since 1993 and the 100 Fly record since 2011.

Adams won 8 of the 12 events on the way to the victory.

All three relays for Adams won their respective events. In the 200 Medley Relay, Elisa Nerenberg, Sofia Frazee, Lyza Kricheffn and Zyniewicz won in a team time of 1:56.50. Adams also took third in the event as well.

Yvette Burton, Cecilia Frazee, Melany Morales Garibay, and Addison Skube took first in the 200 Free, winning in a time of 1:54.69.

The 400 Free Relay consisting of Zyniewicz, Burton, Kricheff, and S Frazee took first in 1:11.50. The Eagles also took third in the relay as well.

Burton took first in the 100 Free in 1:01.19. C Frazee and A Skube were 4th and 5th respectively.

The Eagles swept in Diving. Katie Hensell won easily with a score of 235.15. Avery Curtis was runner up with 153.80 and Kailey Corban was third with 147.75.

The final first place was S Frazee in the 100 Breaststroke, taking first in 1:11.50. Elizabeth Linarello and Ivie Skube took 3rd and 4th.

Also scoring for Adams in the 200 Medley was S Frazee, Daniella Morales Garibay, and Lily Chhuon who finished 2nd, 3rd and 5th. A Skube was 4th and I Skube were 4th and 5th in the 50 Free. Kricheff was 3rd and M Morales Garibay was 4th in the 100 Fly. Nerenberg was 2nd in the 500 Free and Adelyn Rabbitt was 5th. Finally in the 100 Backstroke, Kricheff, Nerenberg, and C Frazee finished 2-3-4.

Adams starts the season off strong with a record of 1-0 overall and in the NIC. The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday when they host SB Washington.
