The Girls Swimming and Diving team competed in the annual South Bend City Meet on Saturday at Riley HS. In a very close race with rival St Joseph, the Lady Eagles finished in second place with a team score of 533.
Adams had two City Champions crowned in the meet. Lindsay Gizzi, a four time City Champion in the event, an extremely impressive feat, won Diving with a new Pool and City record. Gizzi won with a score of 511.25.
Adele Zyniewicz was the City Champion in the 50 Freestyle. Zyniewicz won by a razor thin margin of 1/100th of a second with a time of 24.24. The time was also good for a new school record, a record she broke in the season opener.
It was a total team effort however for the Eagles. Elisa Nerenberg, Sofia Frazee, Lyza Kricheff, and Zyniewics opened the meet with a runner up finish in the 200 Medley Relay, swimming at time of 1:55.78. Adelyn Rabbitt, Elizabeth Linarello, Ivie Skube, and Addison Skube took fourth in 2:06.80.
Rabbitt was the fourth place finisher in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:19.35. Melany Morales Garibay was sixth in 2:20.30, Yvette Burton was seventh in 2:23.77 and Karolyn Henderson finished in tenth.
S Frazee took fifth in the 200 Individual Medley, finishing in 2:31.85. Daniella Morales Garibay swam 2:40.45 to take eighth place, Linarello was ninth in 2:42.91, and Ciara Humeston took tenth place.
Joining Zyniewicz in the 50 Free was a fifth palace finish by A Skube, swimming 27.88. Maeve Driscoll finished in tenth, Melanie Sanchez was 12th, Genevieve Ashton was 14th, Daisy Maciel was 16th and Stephanie Sawyer took 22nd.
In Diving, the Lady Eagles took the top 4 positions, Gizzi was first and was joined by Katie Hensell who finished as the runner up with a score of 426.85, Logan Kosik took third with 299.70, and Kailey Korban was fourth with a score of 268.95.
In the 100 Fly, Kricheff finished in fourth with a time of 1:03.71. I Skube finished seventh in 1:12.00. M Morales Garibay was eighth in 1:12.78, and Humeston was ninth swimming 1:17.02.
Zyniewicz set a new School Record with her runner up finish in the 100 Free. Her new record time was set at 52.69. Burton took sixth in 1:02.19, and A Skube was eighth in 1:03.90. Skye Peck finished 11th, Lily Chhuon was 13th, Henderson finished 14th, Driscoll finished 15th, Allison Kinney took 16th place, Sanchez was 17th, and Ashton took 19th.
In the 500 Free, Nerenberg finished in third place with a time of 5:50.44. Rabbitt finished in fifth place in 6:20.61 and Olivia Thompson swam 6:41.86 to finish in eighth. Ayva Rainwater finished tenth.
In the 200 Free Relay, the team of I Skube, Daniella Morales Garibay, M Morales Garibay, and Humeston took third place with a time of 1:58.80.
Kricheff finished in third place in the 100 Backstroke finishing in a time of 1:05.91. Nerenberg took fifth in 1:08.94, D Morales Garibay was sixth in 1:13.04 and Peck was tenth and Maciel 11th.
S Frazee took the runner up spot in the 100 Breaststroke in 1:12.21. Linarello was fourth in 1:21.75, I Skube finished seventh in 1:24.26, and Chhon was eighth in 1:27.89.
In the final event of the day, the Eagles team of Zyniewicz, Burton, Nerenberg, and Kricheff finished in second in the 400 Free Relay, swimming a time of 3:58.25. Rainwater, Humeston, M Morales Garibay, and D Morales Garibay finished in fifth place in 4:27.76.
Adams will swim next on Tuesday when they host Pen HS. Great work Lady Eagles!
