The Wrestling team competed in the 2021 Northern Indiana Conference Championships on Saturday afternoon at Elkhart HS. The Championship Meet, determines the final standings for Wrestling in the NIC. The Eagles finished in 9th place overall with a team score of 57.
The Adams team, consisting completely of Freshmen wrestlers have improved throughout the season, and put their hard work into action in the Championship meet.
David Pine finished in 5th place at 113 pounds. Pine moved to the quarterfinals after winning by forfeit in the opening round. In the quarterfinals, Pine lost by Major Decision to Elkhart with a final score of 13-2. Pine had two wins by forfeit in the consolation round before losing in the consolation semifinals to Bremen after getting pinned in the second period. In the 5th Place match, Pine was victorious, winning over New Prairie by Major Decision with a match score of 12-1.
At 126 pounds, Jonah Arzadon finished in fourth place. Arzadon received a bye in the first round, advancing to the quarterfinals where he won over Bremen with a fall early on in the third period. In the semifinals, Arzadon lost after getting Pinned by Penn in the first period. Moving to the consolation semifinals, Arzadon earned a victory over Clay, getting the pin quick, only 32 seconds into the match. Arzadon lost in the 3rd Place match to Elkhart after getting pinned late in the second period.
Bol Agwick finished 1-2 wrestling at 138 pounds. Agwick received a bye in the opening round. In the quarterfinals Agwick lost to Jimtown, after getting pinned late in the third period. Agwick won by forfeit in the consolation round before falling to Riley by Decision with a score of 9-5 in the next consolation round.
Wrestling at 145 pounds, Will Kennedy finished in sixth place. Kennedy lost in the opening round of competition to Elkhart by Decision with a score of 7-3. In the fist consolation round, Kennedy received a bye before winning his next two matches. Kennedy beat Bremen by Decision with a score of 7-3 and then earned a win over John Glenn, winning by Decision with a score of 5-1. In the consolation semifinals, Kennedy lost after getting pinned late in the opening period. Kennedy lost again in the 5th Place match, losing by fall early in the second period.
Eduardo Gomez went 1-2 at 152 pounds. Gomez earned a bye in the opening round before a loss in the quarterfinals to Bremen after a pin. Gomez won by forfeit in the consolation round before a loss in the next round after getting pinned by Glenn in the first period.
At 220 pounds, Aaron Garcia lost in the opening round after getting pinned by Sb Riley in the first period. After a bye in the consolation round Garcia had to withdraw from the tournament.
Wrestling at 285 pounds, Landon Roberts finished in 5th place. Roberts received a bye in the first round. In the quarterfinals Roberts lost early in the first period after getting pinned by New Prairie. Roberts earned two victories in the consolation round, winning over SB St Joe with a pin in the first period and then a victory due to injury over Mishawaka Marian. Roberts lost in the consolation semifinals to Penn and then won the 5th palace match after Bremen lost due to injury midway through the match.
