Boys Varsity Wrestling, Coed Varsity Wrestling · Boys Wrestling Finishes 4th at Sectional; 5 Advance to Regional


The 2021 IHSAA Wrestling tournament got underway on Saturday with the Sectional hosted at Mishawaka HS. The Eagles wrestlers finished 4th overall as a team with 99 team points.

The top four wrestlers in each weight class advance from the Sectional to the Regional round. Adams advanced 5 wrestlers to next week’s Regional.

David Pine advanced at 113 pounds after a third place finish. Pine advanced to the semifinals after winning by forfeit in the quarterfinals. In the semi’s, Pine lost to Mishawaka after getting pinned 51 seconds into the match. Pine advanced through the consolation bracket, winning two matches by forfeit. 

At 126 pounds, Jonah Arzadon finished in 3rd place. Arzadon advanced from the quarterfinals with a win by forfeit. In the semifinals, Arzadon lost to Mishawaka by fall midway through the opening period. He won again by forfeit in the consolation semis. In the third place match, Arzadon defeated his SB Clay opponent, quickly pinning him in 18 seconds to take 3rd place.

Bol Agwick finished in fourth place at 138 pounds. Agwick won in the quarterfinals, winning by fall over Marian in the first period. Agwick lost in the semifinals to Mishawaka by fall. Winning by forfeit in the consolation semis put Agwcik in the third place match where he lost to Riley after a hard fought match, eventually losing by Fall in the second period.

At 145 pounds Will Kennedy advanced after a fourth place finish. Kennedy won by Major Decision with a score of 18-7 over Marian in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, he lost by Fall to Mishawaka early in the first period. Kennedy won by forfeit in the consolation semis and then lost by Decision to SB Riley in the third place match wot Riley with a match score of 2-9.

The final qualifier for Adams was Aaron Garcia at 220 pounds. Garcia won by Fall over Marian in the quarterfinals in the first period. In the semifinals, he lost to SB Riley, getting pinned as the first period came to an end. Garcia won by forfeit in the consolation semis before losing in the third place match to Mishawaka, getting pinned in the first period. 

Eduardo Gomez finished 6th at 152 pounds. Gomez lost in the quarterfinals, won by forfeit in the consolation round and then suffered two losses in the consolation semis and fifth place match.

Kailey Brownell finished in 6th at 160 pounds. Brownell lost in the quarterfinals, won by forfeit in the consolation round then had 2 losses in the consolation semifinals and fifth place match.

Landin Roberts finished in 5th place at 285 pounds. Roberts lost in the quarterfinals, won by forfeit in the consolation round and consolation semifinals. Roberts won the fifth place match by Injury Default over Marian. 

Pine, Arzadon, Agwick, Kennedy, and Garcia will all wrestle in the IHSAA Penn regional next week.
