Over the past 80 seasons, the rivalry between John Adams and SB Riley in Boys Basketball has always been intense. Friday night was no exception for the 142nd meeting and 50th Annual Goldsberry Trophy game.
Playing their final home game of the season, the Eagles looked to cap off a perfect season at home and remain perfect in the Northern Indiana Conference. Adams did just that, dominating the Wildcats in a 63-40 victory.
From start to finish, Adams was in control of the game, both offensively and defensively, playing some of their best ball of the season. While the Eagles got out hot, the defense held Riley to only 16 points at halftime. Even after the break, Adams kept the Wildcats scoreless for a significant portion of the third quarter as well. The Eagles cruised to the win throughout the rest of the game, never letting the Wildcats get in control.
Quentez Columbus led Adams in scoring, leading the Eagles with 14 points. Brayden Saxton was not far behind in scoring, finishing with 12 points.
Chuck Worsham and Sidney Jefferies both scored 9 points, Lynn King and Tommy Snyder both scored 8 points, and Jessie Morgan scored 3 points.
Adams was perfect at Hadaway’s Shack this season, finishing 8-0 at home. The win also secured an outright claim to the NIC title, the team’s second in a row. The Eagles will close out the regular season next Friday at New Prairie.
