Girls Varsity Track · Girls Track and Field Wins over New Prairie and Michigan City

The Girls Track & Field team returned to the track for the second meet of the season on Wednesday, taking on New Prairie and Michigan City in New Carlisle. Facing sometimes tough competition and battling the weather, the Lady Eagles took first place in the triangular meet with a score of 80 points.

Adams took 7 first place finishes in the meet, including two relays. The numerous runner up finishes helped the Eagles secure the win.

The 4×100 Relay took first place with a time of 53.3. The team was made up of Isabella Soens, Shanell Exum, Sofia Frazee, and Adele Zyniewicz. Frazee came back in the 400 Dash to take first with a time of 1:05.7. Exum competed a few events later as well and took the winning spot in the 300 Hurdles, running at time of 53.4. The last win on the track came from the 4×400 Relay made up of Soens, Kiara Sisti, Exum, and Zyniewicz. The Eagles relay won with a time of 4:30.6. Adams took three wins in the field as well. Alecia Parker won a pair of first place finishes in the Shot Put and Discus. Parker won Shot with a toss of 39’9” and the Discus with a throw of 103’. Finally, Kayla Douglas won the High Jump with a leap of 4’6”.

The other scoring finishers for Adams included a runner up spot for the 4×800 Relay of Ivie Skube, Carla Hernandez, Olivia Purcell and Lexi Lawwill with a time of 11:56.5. Douglas had a photo finish in the 100 Hurdles and finished 2nd in 19.7. Allie Parker was 3rd in 21.7. In the 100 Dash, Exum took the runner up spot in 13.4 and Zyniewicz was 3rd in 13.5. Lawwill ran to a 3rd place finish in the 1600 Run in 6:15.3. Soens took 2nd in the 400 Dash in 1:06.3. In the 300 Hurdles, Douglass was the runner up with a time of 58.4. Skube ran a time of 2:54.9 in the 800 Run which was good for 3rd place and Betsy Leija was 4th in 3:04.4. In the 200 Dash Zyniewicz finished in 2nd after running 28.2. Lawill took a 3rd palace spot in the 3200 Run in 13:04.2 and Delaney Packard was 4th in 14:15.6. Out in the field, Leia McCann took second in SHot Put with a toss of 26’8” and third in Discus with a throw of 74’7”. Sisti was 3rd in Long Jump with a leap of 12’6.5”. Angel Thomas took 2nd in High Jump with a mark of 4’3”. Katie Hensell was the runner up in Pole Vault with a jump of 8’6”.

The Eagles will compete again following spring break on April 13 at Elkhart HS.
