The Softball team competed in the LaPorte Tournament on Saturday, and had a busy day on the field. To open up play in the tournament, Adams took on the Lowell Red Devils. Adams took an early lead in the game and needed extra innings, but was able to secure the first victory of the day, winning 6-4.
Adams took charge of the game in the first inning scoring 2 runs. Haleigh Smith scored on a ground out hit by Brady Lesher. Olivia VanHeesbeke scored next on a line drive single hit by Kacey Browning out to the right field.Adams held that lead until the 5th inning when Lowell took the lead. Adams went to tie it up again in the 7th again. With 2 runners in scoring position, Emmalynn Zielinski hit a single out to left field which allowed Gabby Kovac to run in to score and tie it up 3-3.
Forcing extra innings, it took until the 9th inning when the Adams bats got hot at the right time. Three key runs were scored quickly. Jenna Trimberger scored on a single hit by Smith and then a bunt from VanHeesbeke Kovac and Smith to score on the play to secure the win.
With the win, the Eagles advanced into the next game of the winners bracket and would face Hobart later in the day.
For the Eagles, Smith finished with 2 runs,4 hits, and 1 RBI, VanHeesbeke 1 run, 2 hits, 2 RBI, Brady Lesher 1 RBI, Zielinski 1 hit and 1 RBI, Browning 1 hit 1 RBI, Emily Kidwell 1 hit, Trimberger 1 hit, Kovac 2 runs and 2 hits.
Zielinski had the win in the circle, coming in to relieve in the 6th inning. Zielinski allowed only 3 hits and 2 runs and struck out 1 batter.
